They did, however, issue a statement in which they said, among other things, that the UN did confirm the Government's preliminary view that "refurbishment of the guns would not be in breach of existing military arrangements" that is, the cease-fire, and it goes on to say that the UN in the area "would be in a position to monitor the refurbishment".
