Orderly queuing -- as seen during the recent Northern Rock banking crisis -- is seen as a quintessentially British convention.

It is the custom in many areas for small shops to keep track of their queued up customers by assigning them sequential Numbers in the approximate order in which they arrive.

If everyone queued up all the time, everything would be very orderly and accident would not happen.
