御膳房位于紫禁城东路、南三所西侧，是清朝掌管宫内备办饮食以及典礼筵宴所用酒席等事务的机构，隶属内务府。 2013年12月30日，故宫博物院院长单霁翔表示一直用于收藏明清家具的故宫御膳房，拟2015年将首次向社会开放。该御膳房自故宫建院以来一直未对外开放过，仅作为库房使用。开放的御膳房将变身明清家具馆，一些明清时期珍贵的家具都将在此展出。
