点突变指只有一个碱基对发生改变。广义点突变可以是碱基替换，单碱基插入或碱基缺失；狭义点突变也称作单碱基替换（base substitution）。碱基替换又分为转换（transitions）和颠换（transversions）两类。点突变具有很高的回复突变率。
