侧流烟气是指：在一个密封的吸烟系统中（为了分析目的），在燃烧端渗透出来的烟气，而不是从吸端流出的烟气。侧流烟气也称为支流烟气。在自由吸烟状态下，侧流烟气是指除了从吸端流出的烟气外的所有从烟支任何其它部位渗透出的烟气。在自由吸烟状态下，当卷烟处于静燃时，侧流烟气可能从吸端流出来。
