Eric Blyth, Professor of Social workatthe University of Huddersfield, UK, said young women may be "lured by what appear to be very large sums of money for what is being presented as a minor medical procedure".
He highlighted that more than seven million young people across the EU were out of work, and said that reforms to the labour market would be looked at to tackle the unemployment crisis.
