商品生产是指在资本主义制度下，指以资本剥削雇佣劳动为特征的商品生产。它是私有制基础上的最发达的商品生产。在社会生产的一定阶段上出现的、以交换为直接目的的物质资料生产。商品生产者生产某种产品，并不是为了得到它的使用价值，而是为了得到它的价值。使用价值是价值的物质承担者，为了得到价值，商品生产者必须生产使用价值，即对社会有用的物。商品生产是社会生产的一种形式，但不是唯一形式。
