人物称谓：《说文》：“姑，夫母也。从女，古声。” 父亲的姊妹称为姑妈。父亲的姊兄称为姑爸。父亲的妹弟称为姑爹。丈夫的姊姊称为大姑姐。丈夫的妹妹称为小姑子。丈夫的姊兄称为大姑姐夫。丈夫的妹弟称为小姑夫。旧时妻称夫的母亲为姑，夫称妻的母亲为姑，夫之父母合称姑翁、姑舅、姑嫜。妻之父母合称舅媪、舅姑、外舅姑。男子的妹妹用“细姑”表示，不特指父亲的同辈，读音同“细哥”（读音不是“细哥”而是“细姑”时，表示“小姑”，即父亲的小妹妹）。“细姨”专指某女子的妹妹。
