If the SEC finds wrongdoing in the investigation, it can choose to bringa civil suitagainst parties involved, issue fines or refer the case to the United States Department of Justice for possible criminal charges.
"Al-Haramain can bringasuit for damages against the United States for use of the collected information, but cannot bringsuitagainst the government for collection of the information itself, " the court concluded.
