Historically, the SEC has stayed out of election-related issues, leaving it to lawmakers and the Federal Election Commission to governcorporate participation in the political arena.
That being said, the law has changed little with regard to the fiduciary duties that govern the actions and business decisions of corporate executives and financial advisors.
What was lost in the transition between these two economic worldviews in the last 30 years was a recognition that business is embedded in society, a society ruled by laws that govern behavior and set long-term economic priorities and goals, often to the benefit of corporate America.
