Last week, for instance, the state of Saxony moved against Bwin, an Austrian betting firm with a grandfathered East German licence.
Saxony warned Bwin that the licence allows it to operate a single betting shop in Neugersdorf, but not a nationwide online network.

When the company tried to take advantage of the April U.S. shutdown of PokerStars and Full Tilt, Bwin.party found that while some new European players were attracted to its poker brands, revenues remained flat.
Zynga is also applying for a gaming licence in Nevada, home of Las Vegas, in order to offer players a new suite of casino-style games on which they can bet real money, in conjunction with the online gambling firm Bwin.
Zynga has made clear its interest in real money gaming for some time, and in October announced a partnership with U.K.-based bwin.party to offer online poker and other real money games in the U.K. in the first half of 2013.
